Time-lapses are on of the most popular things to do with a DSLR and it’s no wonder since the higher resolutions and low light shooting capabilities transform the quality of the video into a visual masterpiece. With a little bit of planning and some additional equipment (a timer remote or intervalometer) you will be well on your way to creating your own beautiful time-lapse sequences. Eric Nathan, a well know Cape Town photographer and time-lapse master will share his expertise with a small group of interested students in a workshop hosted by CTSP in March.

The new iphoneography course developed by Claire McNulty and Fernando Diego Badiali (of Exposure Gallery fame) and Cape Town School of Photography is a mashup (to borrow the web term) of technology morphed with photography skills. We break the rules, we make some new ones but most of all we have fun with our phones.

Claire has over a decade of editorial  experience, covering a broad range of subjects for various publications and documenting the work of non-profit organisations like Operation Smile. Join this exciting new workshop where photography expert, Jules Morgan, will share tips on how to relax people and discuss different posing ideas especially angles that flatter people. Learn how to create desirable portraits, using natural light and create great compositions using different locations.

Session 1: Students can look forward to an initial presentation on Florens’ work, process and shooting gear followed by three practical demonstrations illustrating varied applications of light, within the portraiture genre.

Session 2: The second half of this workshop will, after a brief demo by Florens, require students to shoot three different models, under different lighting and set conditions. Images will be submitted for feedback from Brett during the last hour.

Session 1: The theory component will cover equipment used, an introduction to lighting buildings and interiors, a look at reflections, shadows and shooting at different times of day. The comparison of the old building and modern, a look at details, the human element and buildings, and the building in it’s environment. This will be followed by a practical excursion in town.

Session 2: A look at the previous session’s work followed by a presentation on more advanced lighting situations, interesting angles, details and learning how to balance the interior with the exterior. This will be followed by a practical shoot, a critique and overview of the workshop.

This 4-hour workshop will teach you old-school pinhole photography. No LCD previews, no 16Gb memory cards… we won’t even give you a LENS. You’ll create incredible images with little more than a box, an array of chemicals, and a darkroom. Cost includes materials and a tasty lunch.

Lomography Workshop:

The best photos come out of spontaneous, impulsive situations! With this 7 hour workshop, presented over 2 days, you will explore this unpredictable photographic style of shooting from the hip. Learn the 10 golden rules to Lomography and discover the range of different cameras and film to help you capture vibrant and creative imagery. Day one will include a photowalk through the city using your new Diana mini camera. One day two, you will build a Lomo wall to exhibit at our next quartely student exhibition.

Cost: R1,200 Cost includes a 35mm Diana Lomography camera, a roll of Lomography film, Jumbo prints, images scanned to disc.
