FIVE 4-hour sessions completed over FIVE days
This entry level course combines theory and practice to enable you to take better digital photographs with your digital SLR camera by increasing your theoretical understanding of photography and exploring your creative side. The course addresses the following: camera anatomy, resolution, ISO, exposure, the visual effects of aperture and shutter, understanding light, lenses, flash, and composition as well as further developing your visual literacy. Also addressed are the advantages of shooting in RAW versus JPEG, and the basics of retouching digital photographs using open source software and preparing images for web or print.
Classes
Digital Photography 1: Intensive is presented in daily sessions of 4 hours each, over a period of one week. Sessions include presentations by lecturers and students, a supervised practical shoot around the topic of discussion, slideshows and critiques. Students are also expected to complete a number of practical assignments in response to a project brief.
Needs
To do this course you need a digital SLR camera. A flash and tripod are recommended.
Costs
R3 100 (includes tuition and lecture notes). Students are expected to bear their own printing costs.
