Course Overview

DLSR VIDEOGRAPHY: USING THE VIDEO FUNCTION ON YOUR DLSR CAMERA

This 8 week course focuses on exploring and utilising the video function of your DSLR camera. This will be achieved through a series of theoretical and practical hands on lectures.

The final project will be a chase sequence. (The chase sequence will afford you an opportunity to put into practice all the elements taught on the course.)

  • Stills to Moving images – the basics of the system and core differences between Stills and Moving image

  • 3 Stages of Production

INTRODUCTION TO DSLR CAMERAS FUNCTION WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON THE VIDEO FUNCTION

  • Camera video functions vs still camera operations
  • Camera mounts, panning, tilting, and zooming
  • Controlling exposure, shutter and ISO settings
  • Audio (from on-board recording to standalone units)
  • Digital Video formats- understanding SD and HD
  • Digital video signals and compression

 

BASIC DSLR CAMERAS FUNCTION WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON THE VIDEO FUNCTION AND LIGHTING

  • Light and colour theory
  • Use of the zoom lens
  • Creative lighting effects
  • Sound recording and monitoring
  • Depth of field

Individually conceptualise, design and shoot a HIGH ENERGY chase sequence that shows that you are able to use the VIDEO functions of your DSLR camera taught in class.
